About the Team

We are a team of researchers and creatives coming from a range of disciplinary backgrounds, including environmental, health, and social sciences. We believe blending creative storytelling techniques with online learning can be a powerful combination for education and communication. Collectively, we bring a rich skillset and diverse background that includes community-based social science research, award-winning audio-visual outputs, and thought leadership on health and well-being, climate change and Indigenous co-management.

Jamie Snook, PhD

Jamie is the former Executive Director of the Torngat Wildlife Plants and Fisheries Secretariat where he was responsible for implementing sections of the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement that focus on wildlife and commercial fisheries co-management. Jamie completed a PhD in Public Health at the University of Guelph, and researched the ways in which fish and wildlife co-management impacts Inuit health and well-being. Jamie co-founded Cloudberry Connections, initiated the Co-management Commons, and currently works as the Executive Director for the Marine Environmental Observation Prediction and Response Network. Jamie is a proud Labradorian from the NunatuKavut region and currently living in Mi’kma’ki.

David Borish, PhD

David is a social science researcher and documentary filmmaker whose work sits at the intersection of the human dimensions of conservation and audio-visual research methods. His PhD focused on documenting and communicating Inuit knowledge of caribou across Labrador, and has recently worked on amplifying Inuit knowledge of polar bears across the Davis Strait. David has worked for more than 5 years with the Torngat Wildlife & Plants Co-Management Board in Labrador, and has worked on visual projects with other co-management boards and Hunter and Trapper Organizations in Nunavik and Nunavut.

Andrea Hanke, PhD

Andrea is a social science researcher whose work interacts with multiple knowledge systems to reach a bigger picture understanding of wildlife, focusing on knowledge accessibility, legislation connections, co-management, and community-based research. Andrea’s PhD (University of Calgary) sought to support the co-management partners for the Dolphin and Union caribou herd by facilitating interviews with Inuit in Kugluktuk, Ekaluktutiak, and Ulukhaktok. Their collaborative work detailed Inuit Knowledge of the herd’s distribution by decade from the 1960s-2024 and by sea ice presence, and this data will be used in the proposed research.

Raha Rashid, MSc

Raha is a data science researcher with a focus on human emotion detection and migration studies. Their work explores emotional complexity in digital communications using Natural Language Processing on platforms like Slack and Discord. In parallel, Raha has conducted impactful research on labor migration in the Bangladesh-Malaysia corridor, addressing issues like corruption, malpractice, and exorbitant recruitment fees. Their findings contributed to policy changes, including the abolition of a problematic Memorandum of Understanding by the Malaysian government. Raha’s interdisciplinary approach bridges technological innovation with social impact, advancing solutions for critical human and societal challenges.

Cloudberry Connections

Cloudberry Connections is a strategic consulting initiative that specializes in documenting and communicating Indigenous Knowledge. As part of the Co-management Commons, we contribute to a broader effort to foster collaboration between Indigenous and scientific perspectives on environmental stewardship.
